Farmers in Indragiri Hilir Regency have no choice but to improve their economy. This time they produced printed coconut sugar.
This molded coconut sugar is produced by farmers in Pulau Palas Village, Tembilahan Hulu District for export to Batu Pahat, Malaysia.
“We are sending another 500 kilograms of Tembilahan’s signature molded coconut sugar to Batu Pahat, Malaysia,” said one coconut activist, Burhanuddin Rafik, Sunday (19/5/2024).
Burhanuddin Rafik said that the sugar delivery was carried out by the Bekawan Agro Mandiri Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) group.
Burhanuddin Rafik further said that this molded sugar was produced by assisted rice farmers who came from people’s coconut plantations in Pulau Palas Village.
The processing of printed sugar still uses traditional methods, and the packaging of the sugar boxes also uses used cardboard.
“Even though our sugar packaging boxes are made from used cardboard, we still send the Tembilahan printed coconut sugar produced by MSMEs,” he explained.
Burhanuddin Rafik hopes that the market in Malaysia will be better and production capacity will increase, in order to improve the farmer’s economy.
“Hopefully the market in Malaysia will improve so that printed sugar products will increase,” he hoped.
Exports of this general product of coconut sugar have been going on since March 2023. 1 box contains 15 kilograms, one kilogram costs IDR 24,000.
“This molded sugar export will start in 2023.” The lid.
